"The Elbow" Demo

9* Resisted Extension of the Wrist

Execution
  • The examiner stands next to the patient.
  • The patients arm is elevated and the elbow is held fully extended. The arm is held palm downwards (pronation).
  • The examiner passes his contralateral arm under the patient's arm and grasp the forearm just proximally to the wrist in order to fix the upper limb.
  • He brings the hand of the other arm at the dorsal aspect of the patient's hand to resist the patient's attempt to extend the wrist
  • Remarks

  • Make sure the elbow is held in complete extension.
  • The wrist should be in a neutral position (neither in flexion nor in extension).
