Capsular Stretching

Definition

Passive sustained stretching to the capsule of the joint.

Indications

  • Traumatic arthritis stage I ( eventually II)
  • Immobilizational arthritis stage I (eventually II)
  • Contra-indications

  • All other types of arthritis ( steroid sensitive; reumatoid; septic;…)
  • Traumatic arthritis stage III
  • Immobilizational arthritis stage III
  • Spastic endfeel / intense nocturnal pain
  • Afterpain lasting longer than two hours. If the capsular stretching results in continued increased pain the conclusion is that the capsule of the joint is too much inflamed to accept capsular stretching and the patient is referred. for I.A. Injections
