Chronic Subdeltoid bursitis

Clinical Picture:
Usually a full range of movement.
Sometimes pain at the end of passive range.
Most typically in combination with a painful arc .

A chronic subdeltoid bursitis is not the late result of an acute subdeltoid bursitis. The inflammation is localised from the onset : only a small of the bursal wall is affected. The localisation may be

  • 1 under the acromial roof : acromion and coraco-acromial ligament (subacromial)
  • 2 under the deltoid muscle (superficial).
  • There is marked local tenderness if the lesion is at the deltoid area.
