Chronic AC - strain

Treatment: Palpation of the A-C joint

Although the acromioclavicular joint is superficially localised and only covered with skin and subcutaneous tissue palpation may prove difficult in stout or elderly people.
Gross osteophytes at the acromial part of the joint may be mistaken for the outer clavicular end and thus the transition between bone and osteophyte is mistaken for the joint line.

Three palpation techniques may be used to define the joint:

    1. palpation of the posterior part
    2. palpation of the anterior part
    3. translations
