  • It is extremely important for the patient to understand that a correct response is required, each time his pain is provoked or influenced.
    He must also be able to differentiate between 'a pain' - an unpleasant sensation provoked by the examination ( a tight feeling in the shortening muscles) - and 'the pain' - his reason for presentation.

  • Pain at the extreme of a movement may be due either to a stretching or a pinching of the affected structure.
    However, pain may also be felt somewhere near mid-range in a movement. It is then called a painful arc.
