The Elbow
Biceps Muscle Belly
Infiltration
One or two infiltrations with one week interval.
Material:
A thin needle 5 cm long and a syringe of 10 cc filled with 0.5% procaine
Execution
- The patient in sitting postion, the arm by his side and the
elbow in full supination. The forearm rests on his thigh.
- The muscle belly is distinguished from the underlying brachialis muscle when the patient performs a supination of the elbow.
- The therapist grasps the muscle belly between thumb and index finger to locate the tenderness.
- The needle is introduced in the middle of the tender area.
- Infiltration is carried out carefully, using the technique of withdrawal and reinsertion until the entire lesion has been injected.
After-treatment:
- Some soreness may last during about 24 hours
- The injection is repeated after a week.
- The patient must be referred for
deep transverse frictions
if no lasting benefit results after three weeks, .
