The Elbow
Tricepstendinitis - Infiltration
Material
A thin needle,2.5 to 3 cm long and a 2 cc syringe, filled with 20 mg triamcinolone
Position:
- The patient lies prone with his slightly
flexed arm by his side.
- The upper arm is laterally rotated, the elbow
extended and the forearm in supination.
A small pillow is placed under the elbow
Technique:
- The tenoperiosteal junction is palpated for tenderness ( the tendon is squeezed against the border of the olecranon).
- The needle is inserted about one cm proximal to the olecranon and directed towards it.
- Tendinous resistance should be felt before hitting bone.
- Infiltration is then carefully performed by several withdrawals and
reinsertions of the needle and maintaining bony contact.
