The Elbow

Help: Examination

There is a combination of limited passive movements and painful resisted movements

=> The limitation is painless and the passive movements show a hard endfeel.

A painless limitation of both flexion and extension, in combination with a hard ligamentous endfeel indicates arthrosis

  • The flexion is usually slightly more limited than the extension  ( capsular pattern).
  • There is course crepitus during the passive movements.

An uncomplicated arthrosis at the elbow is painless but may, of course, exist in combination with a (painful) tendonitis at the level of the elbow.

A painless limitation in combination with one or two painful resisted movements therefore indicates:

"A tendonitis in an arhtrotic elbow joint"
