You are not sure whether the limited movements indicate a capsular pattern.
capsular pattern at the elbow is:
The flexion is more limited than the extension.
The pro- and supination movements are free.
It may happen however that the extension is equally limited.
The pro- and supination movements remain free.
A pronounced capsular pattern may be accompanied with pronation
and supination painful at the end of range. However, when such
a pattern is encounterd, one should immediately think of a
fracture of the head of the radius
An impacted loose body in an arthrotic elbow
may also cause a rather confusing
image. Here, the diagnosis will bank on the presence of pain at the end of range
and the changed endfeel ( usually at extension).
