Definition

Reflex therapy on the capsule of the shoulder.
Indications
- Arthritis in stage III
- Arthritis in stage II in combination with a spastic endfeel.
- Steroid sensitive arthritis in all stages.
The treatment of choice however, is a series of intra articular injections with triamcinolone.
Mechanism

Longstanding stimulation of the noci-sensors increases sympathetic activity, giving rise to a vasoconstriction of the vessels around the joint. Very gentle and rhythmic elongation of the capsule, performed in such a way that the fibres are stretched longitudinally stimulates the sensor mechanisms in the joint and in the surrounding tissue. This may inhibit the neuro-vegetative reflexes that are co-responsible for the increased inflammation of the joint.
