Procaine-hydrochloride
General side effects
- Toxic Effects: Toxic reactions are dose-dependent side-effects related to an excessive amount of product that reaches the blood circulation. They may be the result of unintentional intravascular injection or absolute overdose.
- A stimulation of the central nervous system, is characterized by anxiety, excitement, logorrhoea, hypertension, headache, dizziness tremor and muscular cramps;
- A depression of cortex and medulla leads to hypotension, bradycardia, cardiovascular and respiratory depression and finally to respiratory arrest.

Allergic reactions. These are side-effects not related to dose.
They can occur even after the administration of small amounts of the agent.
Previous exposure and sensitization to the active product or to its preservatives or to metabolites is an essential precondition.
There is also a risk for cross-allergy with derivates of para-aminobenzoic acid, sulfamides, and some phenothiazines.
Local side effects
- Local pain. May be present for one to two hours after the infiltration and disappears spontaneously.
- Haematoma and/or ecchymosis.
