Usually in elderly people. Predisposing factors are: immune deficiency, diabetes, alcoholism and malnutrition.
After a direct inoculation of bacteria into the joint (intra-articular injection?) Sometimes by haematogenous dissemination.
Acute onset of a capsular pattern ( in one or two days).
The capsulair pattern is very pronounced with a spastic endfeel ; Local signs of intense inflammation: the skin is swollen, warm and red.
Generalized illness: high temperature, nausea and toxaemia.
