The gleno-humeral joint , the "rotator cuff" and bursae have a C5 segmental origin. The pain is therefore felt in the C5 dermatome.
The clavicle and the acromio-clavicular joint have a C4 origin. This means that acromio-clavicular pain will never spread beyond the deltoid area.
The localisation of the pain and its distal reference is an indication for the intensity of the complaints. The more serious the lesion, the greater the pain and the further its reference.
