Onset of the complaints

How did the pain come on ?

• Spontaneously and progressively/ without particular reason
• Traumatic
• As the result of overactivity

The answer to this question is important when capsular pattern is present:

• Symptoms appearing after a trauma (direct-indirect) indicate
  a traumatic arthritis.
• Pain developing progressively and without apparent reason points in the direction of monarticular steroid-sensitive arthritis.
• A tendinitis may have a spontaneous onset or is due to overuse.
• A tendon rupture usually results from an indirect trauma.
• A chronic Subdeltoid Bursitis may develop either spontaneously or after a (direct) trauma.
