The Shoulder

Technique:

• The patient sits with the arm in a neutral position.
• The borders of the tender area are carefully delineated.
• The needle is inserted in the middle of the area until it hits bone.
• It is then moved between humerus and deltoid.
• On withdrawing, one cc of the solution is injected.
• The needle is then thrust in in a slightly different direction and the procedure repeated.
• This manoeuvre is repeated about ten times until all the procaine is divided in a fanwise manner over the whole affected area.
