Almost never encountered in patients under age 40
Progressive onset after injury (sometimes trivial)
Both pain and limitation of movement progressively increase during a few months.
There may be nocturnal pain.
After four to six months the pain diminishes, but the limitation remains the same.
It may take up to eight months before the limitation begins to decrease. By a year, pain has completely gone and movement is back to normal
