Test for the trapezius (Spinal Accessory Nerve)
Execution:
- The examiner stands behind the patient and gives counter-pressure at the medial sides of the inferior angles of both scapulae.
- The patient is then asked to pull both scapulae together.
- If unilateral weakness is present, the scapula at the affected side can be pushed away easily.
- The most common disorder leading to an unilateral weakness of the trapezius is a mononeuritis of the Spinal Accessory Nerve
