Infiltration of tenoperiosteal junction ( type I)
Treatment of choice is one to three infiltrations, with an interval
of two weeks between consecutive infiltrations.
Product
Local infiltration with 10 mg triamcinolone => a fine needle, 2- 2.5 cm long
fitted to a 1 ml tuberculin syringe, filled with 1 cc Triamcinoloneacetonide 10 mg/ml
Execution
The patient lies supine with the upper arm abducted and externally rotated.
The elbow is held in almost full extension and in full supination.
The therapist sits next to the patient.
The epicondyle is palpated and the tender point sought.
The needle is thrust in just distal to the palpating thumb and moved
downwards through the resistance of the tendon until bony contact is
made.
The affected area is now infiltrated by means of a series of withdrawals
and reinsertions; about ten droplets are deposited on slightly different
spots, so as to fill a three-dimensional area.
The thumb continuously palpates the affected area during the whole procedure, to make sure that the whole area
has been infiltrated.
