The Elbow

Loose Body in Adulthood

Manipulation in pronation - Performance

  1. Starting position The arm should be as relaxed as possible : rotate the forearm a few times without traction.
  2. Apply traction by bringing the body weight on the contralateral foot and lean backwards.
  3. Pivoting on the foot will now gradually move the elbow from flexion into extension.
  4. In the meantime, rotate the patient' s forearm three to four times and quickly into pronation and back to the neutral position. Each rotation movement should be performed to the full range (endfeel).

Caution!!!
Extension movement is not performed beyond the degree of limitation:
if this should happen, it would result in a traumatic arthritis of the joint.
Therefore the ipsilateral foot must stop the pivoting movement well
before the end of range is reached.
