Supinator muscle lesion

Occurence

Painful resisted supination usually occurs in conjunction with
pain on resisted flexion, in which case the lesion lies in the
biceps muscle.
In a lesion of the supinator brevis, the resisted flexion of the
elbow is negative: Pattern.

Lesions of the supinator are quite rare. The diagnosis should
therefore always be made with all proper reserves.

The resisted supination test is repeated with the elbow held
acitvely stretched.
In extension the activity of the biceps is largely inhibited.
A positive answer therefore points in the direction of a lesion
of the supinator.
Finally an infiltration with a local anaesthetic is given to
confirm the diagnosis.
