The Elbow

Mechanical lesions (trauma or over-use of connective fibrous tissue - muscular, tendinous and ligamentous structures).

Friction can be given to:

• Biceps - muscular tears
• Biceps - musculotendinous junction
• Biceps - tenoperiosteal junction
• Brachialis - muscular tears
• Tricepstendinitis
• Pronator Teres
• Supinator
• Golfers elbow types I and II
• Tennis elbow type I
• Tennis elbow type II
• Tennis elbow type III
• Tendinitis extensor carpi ulnaris

There is no alternative for friction in:

• Biceps - muscular tears
• Biceps - musculotendinous junction
• Triceps tendinitis
• Golfers elbow type II
• Tennis elbow type I
• Tennis elbow type III

Deep friction is the treatment of choice in:

• Tendinitis in sportsmen
• Recurrences after previous infiltrations with triamcinolone.
• Partial tendinous ruptures

Infiltrations with triamcinolone is the treatment of choice in:

• Gross inflammation (nocturnal pain)
• Calcifications in the tendon
• Biceps - tenoperiosteal insertion (deep friction is often too painful)
