However, it is not always easy to detect a subtle limitation of movement.

Full passive range of movement with pain at the end may point to a sprained AC ligament or to a chronic subdeltoid bursitis.

Discrepancy between a full and painless passive elevation and a seriously limited but painless active elevation may indicate a neurological lesion.
